Lisboa Restaurant in Havana

This indoor/outdoor restaurant is located at 1st Ave and 42nd St in the Miramar part of Havana. You can choose between a very dark, very cold (air conditioned) indoor restaurant with cloth tableclothes (which was very popular with the locals). Or choose the adjacent covered outdoor patio area (besude the outdoor grill kitchen where the food is prepared).

Each evening Lisboa offers a $3.50 special. Sometimes it was delicious deep fried strips of battered chicken, served with a little salad. Other nights it was roast chiecken or a chuleta (a cut of pork.) Some nights they started off with one dish and when it was all gone they offered a different dish. All were very tasty. Just ask the staff what the special is.

For about 1.50 you add a nice side serving of some kind of rice. Again they offered different rice dishes on different nigths. On various nights they offered fried rice, purple rice (rice and beans), yellow rice and white rice.

On one occasion I was offered roasted chicken (with no salad or rice) for only 30 MN (pesos in national money -- about $1.25). The menu also included sphagetti for 10 MN ($0.50). It was a popular choice, thought it included only a dab of red sauce. However it was covered in grated cheese. Pizza is also popular here.

Drinks were reasonable at $2.00 for tap beer. $1.00 for 500ml cold water.

In the morning, the sit-down operation was closed. But they had a window that offered take out pizza. This seemed very popular to the locals. Interestingly, Cubans tend to fold their pizzas in half and eat them something like a sandwich or calzone.
